It’s almost midnight and 5 teenagers are in the back of our Suburban. Not like that picture above. They’re asleep now. It’s the only time they’ve been asleep at this late hour all week. Just like babies, they’re so well-behaved that way. There’s been a steady rain the past seven hours. It’s been a day of burger runs and potty breaks in out-of-the-way outposts like Tallulah, Hattiesburg, Eudora and Conway. Now, after 14 hours… Read More

By now you’ve heard and read about the ordeal that thousands of Carnival Triumph passengers endured for several days. All the passengers are off the ill-fated ship now, but their vacation memories will last a lifetime. I’ve taken my family on many cruises, and several on Carnival. I think it’s one of the best ways to relax and sample other countries and cultures. But the closest I’ve ever come to a “cruise… Read More

You know what it’s like to take something for granted until you don’t have it anymore? Michelle and I sure do. We took a short trip to Oregon recently to visit family. The oil is getting closer to these sugary white sandy beaches.  Many of the locals I talked to today say it’s now within 10 miles.  And they’re all worried… from the grocery store clerk to the beach chair rental guy… what it would mean to the environment and the… Read More

Shame on you major airline, major pain in the &#%.   I always come back for more, only to be disappointed once again.  As I write this, I’m 35,000 feet somewhere over east Texas, flying American from Dallas to Ft. Lauderdale.  Family trip.  Me, the wife, and two of my kids.  Heading for Florida for one of those cruises to the Caribbean.  Hopefully a relaxing week ahead.  But so far getting there… Read More

I know this isn’t a news flash, but flying sure isn’t fun anymore.  Or even faster than driving sometimes.  Case in point.  Last Friday evening Michelle and I returned from our vacation in Vail.  Our flight was out of Denver.  Michelle always gets mad at me because I get to the airport early.  You never know what’s going to happen.  So we drop off our rental car and get to DIA at… Read More
