Most of us are working on our 2011 tax return. I spent the day collecting and organizing documents and numbers for my CPA. Once again, my cat wanted to help out. “Butters” loves calculators and papers. Anything that makes noise.   I thought I was a little behind in getting my taxes out this year, but not after hearing the IRS is waiting for about a million people who still haven’t filed… Read More

My first blog of 2012 is about one of my least favorite things…. taxes. (That’s a picture of my cat “helping” me organize my tax papers last year.) Every year I (and my cat) dread April 15th. But not this year. This year you’ll have a couple extra days to file your return. The Internal Revenue Service announced today it’s pushing back the deadline from April 15th to April 17th. How come?… Read More

I’m getting a late start on my taxes. And I’m being punished for that. By my cat. Every year I lay all my receipts, tax papers and documents into neat piles on top of the kitchen table. They were neat, that is, until my cat wanted to play. So what do I tell my CPA if I don’t have everything? “The cat ate my taxes?”

Many of you are on the ball with your taxes. You filed early. You’re getting a refund. So now you’re wondering, or soon will be,“Where’s my money”?  Don’t bug the mail carrier.  The Internal Revenue Service has a better way to track down your refund… either by phone or online. The IRS has an online tool called “Where’s My Refund?” To get started, you’ll need some information:

One of the few rewards of doing your taxes is anticipating a little cash back. A majority of tax returns will receive a refund check this year. If you’re one of them, be sure to make the most of it. Help! I’m buried in taxes! Is that you? We’re into another tax season now, and you’re probably getting your taxes ready to send into the IRS. You may also wonder how long you should hang onto those old tax-related papers and documents that are spilling out of the file cabinet or stuffed into old shoe boxes in your closet. What to keep… what to toss out.  It’s a dilemma for many of us… Read More

Chalk up another victim to Tulsa’s historic winter weather… our taxes.  I had every intention of getting to my taxes early this year. Then the storms hit. I’ve been more worried about finding bread, milk and eggs, than w-2s and 1040s. That’s my excuse, and it may have put your taxes on the back burner as well.

I realize we’re getting a little ahead of ourselves (most of us haven’t even filed our taxes yet), but the IRS has a new way to check the status of your tax refund. Yep, there’s an app for that, too. The IRS is out with a new phone app called IRS2GO.  It’s free and can be downloaded on iPhones and Androids, according to the tax agency. The app helps people track their… Read More
