One of the perks for working at a television station is having the inside track in getting your pet’s picture on the air. That’s Jeter, one of my labs, in the above picture. Whenever we have a snow event, we encourage our viewers to send in their photos. Pets, children, trees, themselves. We love to share them with the rest of our viewers. I got to share this moment I had with… Read More
It’s a beautiful Friday, and the beginning of another month. But can you remember (if you lived in Oklahoma) what happened two years ago today? The above picture is a pretty good clue. Yeah, we were buried in a record-setting blizzard. More than 14 inches of snow dumped on Tulsa on February 1, 2011, and even more in outlying areas. To make it even tougher to swallow, the temperatures leading up to… Read More
We hit 71 today in Tulsa. 71! It’s been an unseasonably warm winter in Oklahoma. So far. I know winter isn’t over yet, but we made it through December AND January without a major snow or ice storm. And much of the rest of the country has too. So it’s hard to believe what we were facing this time last year. It’s been a year since our record-setting blizzard brought much of… Read More
I think I’m changing my mind about the weather. We’ve been over 100 degrees all except a few days since June. July was the hottest month ever in Oklahoma! Today Tulsa hit 112. Tomorrow it could be 115! By the way, that’s the highest temp EVER in Tulsa. Day after day after day of this has me longing for February. I never thought I’d say that. And February was cruel in another… Read More
It was Monday morning. My youngest boy, Tommy, dragged himself down for breakfast. He was heading back to school after a nearly two-week blizzard break. Our conversation went something like this: Tommy: “Dad, is this March?” Me: “No, it’s still February.” Tommy: “I can’t wait until March.” Me: “Why?” Tommy: “Spring Break. And then it’ll be April, May, and then summer.” Even after being out of school for so long, he still… Read More
Two weeks minus one day. 9 days. That’s how long most Oklahoma students have been out of school during this historic snow and cold. They won’t admit it, but I can tell my boys are getting tired of being home. I know I am. And my wife certainly is. While main roads are certainly drivable now, the neighborhoods and school parking lots aren’t. And that continues to be the problem. Buses can’t… Read More
The snow totals are in. And they’re pretty impressive. While Tulsa officially got just over 5 and a half inches from this latest storm, other areas nearby got more. A lot more. Some places in NE Oklahoma are buried. One viewer called and said he got three feet of snow. A viewer in Salina sent the station this picture. 26 inches!! That’s a mail truck. Uh-oh! Somebody’s not getting their mail today!… Read More
9 am update: Boy, did Tulsa dodge a snowflake. T-town has gotten a little less than half a foot of snow from this latest storm. (That’s a photo of one of our “live” locations in SW Tulsa.) But just to the north and east of town, it’s a lot more. Here are some of the snowfall totals as of 8:45 am:
It’s midnight. Heading into Wednesday morning. And into the teeth of another storm. Many of us are spending another night at Hotel 8. My sleeping bag was up here a couple of nights last week, during the historic Blizzard of ’11. And it’s rolled out again tonight with the forecast calling for up to another foot of snow. The Ritz-Carlton it’s not. Glamorous isn’t it? Sports Director Chris Lincoln ready to catch… Read More
Four snow days last week. Still haven’t heard from the schools if there will be class Monday. My guess? No. The neighborhood streets are still really bad, and busses have to be able to pick up students. Who knows? With another big storm coming our way Tuesday/Wednesday, the kids could get quite a few more snow days. Spring Summer break might be cancelled. Like many kids, my boys (Jacob and Tommy) were… Read More
After the week it was, we deserved a day like today. The sun was a welcome relief. Who knows? We may never see it again. It’s supposed to snow again Sunday, then more during the middle of the week. Michelle and I usually go spinning at the gym Saturday morning. Instead, we got our exercise walking Jeter in the snow.
Our weather guys say we have two more chances of snow… Sunday (up to 3 inches) and Tuesday night/Wednesday (up to 8 inches possible). Saturday morning was beautiful. If you didn’t have to drive. I took a few pictures out my back (and front) door. Now I’ve got to start shoveling the snow before the next storm hits. Hey, the paper finally came today. Old news.
