I’m not ashamed to say, “I love my iPhone!” It goes everywhere with me, and does just about everything. But I never realized just how much it can do until I read a TrendingBuffalo.com story (via consumerist.com). It opened my eyes to just how valuable my iPhone really is. The author of the story found a nearly full-length ad by Radio Shack from a 1991 edition of The Buffalo News. Of the… Read More

What’s on your smart phone right now? No, not the music. Not the latest game or app. And not your favorite photos. I mean what’s ON your phone right now. If a new study is correct, it could be covered in fecal matter. Or, as my boys call it … poop. Researchers in London looked at hundreds of swab samples from cell phones and found one in six phones is contaminated with… Read More

Apple co-founder Steve Jobs died today after a long battle with cancer. I never met the man, but I’ve spent a lot of money on the innovations of this modern-day Thomas Edison. His iPhones, iPads, iPods, iMacs, MacBooks, and who knows what else, have cost me thousands of dollars. And they’ve been worth every penny. Why? For at least a couple of reasons: they work (without the usual techno headaches), and they’re fun…. Read More

It was a tense early afternoon for me. What would he decide to do? What would it look like? Would he join the race or not? Would it be a revamp or all new? Could we call him a candidate? Could we be looking at the latest and greatest device? Dueling announcements It was high noon… politics and technology were dueling for my attention. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was holding a news… Read More

We love to report on studies and surveys in the news. The latest one caught my eye. And of course we’ll have it on the news today. Here’s the bait to get you hooked: “What would you be willing to give up for your cell phone? Hear just how far some people will go to stay connected, coming up later.” How’s that for a tease? Now here’s the story:

With three boys, I’m always picking up their cell phones to snoop on them. Don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about, or you don’t do the same thing. You know, who they’re texting and calling. Sherlock Holmes stuff like that. We’ll argue the privacy issues another time. Trouble is, their iPhones have passwords, also known as passcodes, on them. So after a few frantic guesses to break the secret… Read More

Here’s a shocker. Car washes were busy today. After our two weeks of snow storms, and temps around here as low as minus 31, spring-like weather is here. It’s supposed to be close to 80 today!! So like everyone else, it was a perfect day to wash away the bad memories. The guy there said they washed 550 vehicles there yesterday, which was a record for them. It was quite a wait…. Read More

There are still a lot of people who haven’t ventured out since the big storm, so they don’t know first-hand what the roads are like. For the past couple of mornings, I’ve documented by my drive to work, using my iPhone. Below is a video of what it looked like Friday morning. Keep in mind this was before it started snowing again this afternoon.

I realize we’re getting a little ahead of ourselves (most of us haven’t even filed our taxes yet), but the IRS has a new way to check the status of your tax refund. Yep, there’s an app for that, too. The IRS is out with a new phone app called IRS2GO.  It’s free and can be downloaded on iPhones and Androids, according to the tax agency. The app helps people track their… Read More

I’ve warned you many times (on TV and my blog) about cell phone fees, and here’s another “watch out!”  AT&T is drastically raising its early termination fee (ETF) for so-called “smart phones” (like the iPhone).  If you want to escape your two year contract before its over, it’ll cost you $325.  That’s up from $175.  Ouch!  Verizon did the same thing a few months ago. Why such a cruel punishment penalty?  This… Read More

What’s most important to you… the iPhone or toilet? Strange question, but in the latest poll of most important inventions of all time, the iPhone beat out the flushing toilet. It was also voted as more important than the car, washing machine, combustion engine and space travel. The survey came out of Great Britain. The iPhone is the only 21st century invention to make the list of top 100. What’s #1? The… Read More

My oldest son and I both own iPhones.  We both love our iPhones, but the degree of our affection is where we part ways.  Before he went away to college he would fall asleep with his iPhone next to him.  I doubt that sleeping habit has changed.  I always thought that a bit odd and extreme. Turns out it may still be odd, but maybe not so extreme. It’s now official.  iPhones… Read More
