Ann Curry Announces She’s Leaving “Today” Show

The rumors are true and speculation is over. A tearful Ann Curry announced this morning she’s leaving NBC’s “Today” show. She told viewers, “I’m sorry I couldn’t carry the ball over the finish line, but man did I try.”

Ann spent just one year on “Today”, and left amid leaks that the network was blaming her for the show’s ratings decline. I’ve written about Ann before. We worked together years ago. Here’s an excerpt from my blog when she was named “Today” show co-host last June:

There was only one female in our small news department.  And the news director reportedly told her she would never make it in this business.  NEVER!  Why?  One reason.  She was a woman.  ”You’ll never last here girl.” Boy, was he ever right.  She didn’t last there.  After jobs in Portland, LA, and Chicago, she landed a job in New York City.  On the Today Show.  You’ve probably seen her.  Ann Curry.  As in “Matt, Meredith, ANN and Al.”

Now just a year later, she’s being told again she’s not good enough. If I were a betting man, I wouldn’t count Ann out.

Savannah Guthrie is expected to replace her. Here’s the video of her announcement this morning.

  1. Ann, you’re the greatest! Way back at KTVL in Medford, Oregon, we watched you closely, and loved you from the very start. Son Mark Bradshaw (also of KTVL) always spoke so highly of you, and saw your great ability and potential. He was behind you all the way. We knew the story! Keep looking up, gal! You have a big following. And, by the way, I remember how very pretty you were—-and are now. I wish we had some of those old pictures of the KTVL gang where some of you got your start!
