600 Pound Woman Sets New Goals

Donna Simpson

It’s a brand new year, and many of us are resolving to lose weight and get into shape. I stood on the scales AND hit the gym this morning for the first time in 2012. It was no coincidence. My goal is to lose a few pounds. Donna Simpson’s goal is a lot more challenging. Who’s Donna Simpson? I mentioned Simpson in a couple of my blogs in 2010 (Shortest Man, Heavy Woman: Not Your Average Couple & Woman Stuffs Herself With 30,000 Calories Christmas Feast).

The 44 year old’s reported goal was to become the world’s fattest woman, and tip crash the scales at half a ton. She even had a pay-per-view website where people could watch her eat. But on her way to the record books (she reportedly made it to 600 pounds), she had a change of heart. On her personal website (not the pay-per-view one) Simpson told her readers that she’s now facing “the greatest challenge of my life” to “regain my emotional and physical well-being.” She’s replaced videos of her eating with blogs about her healthier lifestyle. Whole turkeys and hams for fruits and veggies. Here’s an excerpt:

At this time I would like to thank and maybe apologize to all my fans. I realize this statement will be met with mixed emotions. The people that admired me as a “super-sized big beautiful web model” probably will be disappointed in this decision. The thousands of people that have sent me hate mail will either think this is some publicity stunt or maybe they will become supporters. Either way, I assure you I am sincere in my desire to change.

Simpson has lost 85 pounds on her long road to weight loss. “I’m not trying to be a size 4,” she says. “I just want to be normal and more active.”

  1. Holy crap! I would rather be dead than be that size.

  2. I, a little over 4 years ago, weighed in at 435 pounds. It has taken me this long to get to 261 pounds. A lot of hard work. I tip my hat to you for realizing that the weight has got to go. It will not be a easy path, put it will be a rewarding one.
