Start Now to Make for a Better Tax Season Next Year
Tax day is a month behind us, and you may have promised yourself to do things differently next time (like keeping your cat away from all your receipts and documents spread out on the kitchen table). Well, here’s your chance.
I realize taxes are probably the last thing you want to think about, but you may want to be better prepared come next tax season, so you don’t make the same mistakes again.
WalletPop.com has advice for a better tax season next year. They include:
- Start getting organized. That includes a better record-keeping strategy.
- Make estimated payments. If you owed money with your 2010 tax return, consider making estimated payments this year to avoid the same result next year.
- Adjust your withholding, especially if this year’s refund was very large.
- And interview a tax professional. With most of the rush over, now’s a good time to call or meet with a few candidates to see who might be the best fit to work with next year.
Was tax season a nightmare this year (don’t blame the cat)? Now’s the time to start so it’s better next year.
