It’s FAFSA Time!
Every year at this time, I remind you about the FAFSA, which stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It’s an application you fill out online. I did it a couple of weeks ago… twice. I’ll have two kids in college in the fall. Ouch!
Not everyone who fills it out will get financial help, but it’s a necessary step for other help you can take advantage of. Even if you make too much money, and don’t think you’ll qualify for need-based aid, the FAFSA needs to be filled out. It’s the foundation for everything from merit awards to government-sponsored grants and loans.
And do it now, before financial aid money runs out. Don’t wait until your tax return is done. Instead, use ballpark numbers and update them later when your taxes are finished. The important thing is to fill out the FAFSA, and send it in as soon as possible.
