Who’s Top Dog? AKC Names Favorite Breeds

Extra treats for two of my dogs tonight.  Jeter (check out his story here) and Major are both Labrador Retrievers.  The American Kennel Club is out with its Most Popular Breed list again, and the Lab is top dog…. again.

The AKC announced its nationwide registration statistics today.  The Labrador Retriever is #1 for the 20th year in a row.  So no surprise there. But in looking over the list, there were a couple shakeups in the top 10. The Beagle nosed out the Golden Retriever for the 4th spot, and the Bulldog beat out the Boxer for #6. Watch out for the Bulldog.  That’s its highest ranking in a century, according to the AKC.

Here’s the AKC’s top ten for 2010:

  1. Labrador Retriever
  2. German Shepherd
  3. Yorkshire Terrier
  4. Beagle
  5. Golden Retriever
  6. Bulldog
  7. Boxer
  8. Dachshund
  9. Poodle
  10. Shih Tzu

Tipsy, our Miniature Schnauzer, finished out of the top 10 at #12. Alright. I’ll give her an extra treat, too, tonight.

  1. My life has absolutely altered since I rescued my 2 boys. I could not envision my life without having them. They are my best friends, love me unconditionally and complete me. I’ve observed dogs save lives of stressed out masters.

    • What would we do without our dogs? I come home all stressed out, and they always are there to greet me with a smile (at least I think that’s what it is).

  2. What’s up everyone, it’s my first pay a visit at this web
page, and piece of wriuting is genuinely fruitful in support of me,
    keep up posting such articles.
