Where’s My Tax Refund?
Quick bugging the mail carrier. The Internal Revenue Service has a better way to track down your refund, either by phone or computer.
The IRS has an online tool called “Where’s My Refund?”.
To get started, you’ll need some info:
- Your social security number
- Your filing status
- And the amount you’re expecting
When should you start checking? Depends on how you filed.
- If you e-filed and requested direct deposit, the IRS says wait 72 hours before using the tracking tool.
- And if you filed a paper return, and you’re expecting a check in the mail, give it three weeks before checking.
So start using the online tracking after those two time periods. The IRS also has a toll free number if you don’t have a computer (which I’m guessing you do if you’re reading this).
One more thing. Don’t fall for scams about your refund. The IRS will never initiate email correspondence about your situation.
