AKC Announces America’s Top Dog For 2012
The 49ers and Ravens square off in the big game this weekend, but the Super Bowl of dog breeds has already been played. And you could say the winner has a dynasty going.
The American Kennel Club says the Labrador retriever was the nation’s most popular dog in 2012 … for the 22nd straight year! The AKC says the lab is tops for attributes that range from family friendly pet to search-and-rescue nose. I have two labs, Jeter and Major, and they’re great dogs. I’ve written about them here before, and both have been part of our family for many years.
Here’s a list of other breeds making the top ten:
- Labrador retriever
- German shepherd
- Golden retriever
- Yorkshire terrier
The bulldog has made the biggest jump in popularity in the past ten years. It was 18th in 2002. Is your dog not in the top 10? Click here for a complete ranking of AKC breeds.
