Can one word define the culture where you live? Probably not, but it may give a pretty good snapshot of it, when it comes to the words “church” and “beer”, according to a recent study.
The study by Floatingsheep.org found that Americans tweet more about church than beer, and there’s a distinct regional difference between the tweets. Researchers combed through about 10 million tweets from one week last month to come up with their results.
The biggest church tweets were found in the Southeast. Twitter users in the Northeast were most likely to talk about beer. “San Francisco has the largest margin in favor of ‘beer’ tweets with Boston running a close second,” the report says. “In contrast, Dallas, Texas wins the FloatingSheep award for most geotagged tweets about ‘church’…”
